Cash For Homes Companies are Often Scams. Here's a Way to Get $15k-$400k Without Selling Your Home.

So you need quick cash, and you're looking to sell your home fast. What do you do?

You've probably seen dozens of "WE BUY HOMES FOR CASH" signs plastered on lawns around your town.

They don't look terribly legitimate, and that's for a good reason: they often aren't. Many cash-for-home companies are outright scams.

Hometap essentially buys a portion of your home in exchange for up-front cash. The upside: the payment isn't a loan, and there aren't any monthly payments. You can do whatever you want with the money.

- Hometap buys part of your house as an investment (you decide how much you want them to invest). In exchange, you get paid cash up-front. The entire process takes around 3 weeks (sometimes less).

- Then, whenever you decide to sell your home, Hometap collects a portion of the sale price

- The money you received isn't a loan - you just sold Hometap a portion of your house. That means you don't pay any monthly payments or interest, either.

Sounds a little too good to be true, right? 

There are a few caveats:

1. Hometap is only available in certain states, and...
2. Spots are relatively limited, and demand is (understandably) very high.
